BACKGROUND: The Senior Center at Walker Park serves senior citizens, provides for the Meals on Wheels program, and serves as an emergency shelter as needed. The Senior Center has a natural gas-fired generator to maintain uninterrupted operations during power outages. DISCUSSION: The automatic transfer switch has failed and needs to be replaced. Due to the age of the generator, a new transfer switch will necessitate the generator also be replaced as a package unit. Nixon Power Service has provided a quote and purchase agreement through the Sourcewell cooperative purchasing program (contract # 092222-KOH) for $59,718.17. A tariff fee will also be applied at the time of purchase based on current tariffs in place. The tariffs are volatile and hard to project. At the time of quote, tariffs were estimated at $1,665 but could change before the purchase is authorized and confirmed. An allowance of 10% of the purchase price is requested to adjust as needed for tariff changes. BUDGET/STAFF IMPACT: The cost of the generator and transfer switch is $59,718.17. There will be a tariff fee applied at the time of purchase. Initial estimates of the tariff fee is $1,665 but this is subject to change.
