Dear City Council Members & Mayor Rawn,
My name is Clark Eckels and I live at 4011 N. Hwy 112. I would like to give my strong support for a few of the items on
tonight's meeting agenda: C.2. (Ellis Ave.), C.3. (Willow Ave.), & C.4. (E. McClinton St.).
I believe that these are thoughtful, relatively small rezone requests made by local small scale developers. These requests
have staff confirm with the city's long term goals, promote housing growth (& home ownership), and have staff support.
I used to live in this area of Fayetteville (S. College Ave.) and am interested in moving back in the future.
I would like to especially voice my strong support for item C.2., the Ellis Ave. rezoning. The developer has expressed the
desire to build a corner store, cafe, or coffee shop and I believe that this would be a great asset to the neighborhood. In
this country & city, we have created the built environment in a way that does not work for the most vulnerable users
(children, people with disabilities, or the elderly). A neighborhood store or cafe would be a great for quality of life. It
would mean that a parent could send their middle schooler down to the store to pick up a loaf of bread, it could be an
after school job for the high schooler who does not have a car, or a place for neighbors to stop by and pick up basic
necessities without having to drive to the grocery store. It has the potential to be an important "3rd space", a
community gathering place for the neighborhood. It could even be the location of a small business owned by someone
in the neighborhood. I would love to be able to have something like that within walking distance from where I live. I've
had this in previous places i've lived and miss it dearly. This rezoning aligns with the city's goals as outlined in City Plan
2040 and has strong staff support. I urge you to vote yes on this rezone (as well as C.3. & C.4.).
Thank you for your consideration.
Clark Eckels
