City Council - City of Faye?eville
I’m wri?ng to express my strong support for the Bates/Siemek rezoning proposals on Ellis Ave in south Faye?eville
(agenda items C.1. - C.4 and D.1.). I was learning about this project in the last few days and I am very excited about the
proposed neighborhood café that I think would be of great benefit to this area.
I’ve had proper?es in Faye?eville since 2015 and have been a proud city resident since 2020. I own a property on the
same street at 1115-1117 S Ellis Ave. Having lived in many great communi?es throughout my life including in very
walkable ci?es in Europe and La?n America, I am very excited about the city’s progressive ini?a?ves to increase density,
walkability and a sense of community and I think the Bates/Siemek project is a step in the right direc?on to bring the
neighborhood together. I do hope projects like this are supported and extend throughout the city so it becomes less car
1
dependent and we can increase the appeal of urban neighborhoods. There are many ci?es to choose from if one wants
sterile, boring and car dependent areas when one has to drive to get things as simple as coffee or milk, but I am happy
to live in a city that thinks differently.
All of this, in my mind, is a good thing. I want to live in a neighborhood that is denser, more diverse, walkable, and
community oriented. I understand there may be opposi?on to the project because there’s always people that are scared
of change. But Bates and Siemek have put forward a vision of posi?ve change through a nice café that will anchor the
neighborhood and make it more appealing and that will benefit South Faye?eville as it exists today and support it as it
grows into the future.
I can’t a?end this mee?ng in person but I am happy to con?nue to support this rezoning ini?a?ve with council members
or residents.
All the best,
Fernando Guevara
