Hello Mayor Rawn.
My wife and I bought 1016 S. Kingfisher Ln. in April 2021. Shortly after, we experienced the homeless encampment that
was right up against our back fence. Incidents at that time included:
- people shouting expletives at us and our children every time we were in our backyard
- screaming/ gunshots/ noises late into the night
- our children could not play in the backyard without being harassed and targeted with people shouting expletives at
them, or people having sex up against our fence.
- we experienced the constant smell of marijuana and drug use
- police were called, incidents recorded, but no resolution actions were taken except told to contact city council
members. And then the city later moved the encampment which resolved the issue in 2022.
Just as the city has light & sound ordinances from one resident to not impose upon a neighbor resident, kindly ask that
the city maintain same standard in the city's decision making when choosing to temporarily house people right up
against someone’s personal back yard fence. This is a city owned property, however allowing it to be used for
temporary housing is allowing ordinance violations and is placing the property owners in Park Meadows in danger of
bodily harm and/or harassment. This would inevitably cause the city more work in having more police calls, and
enforcement of ordinances similar to the same incidents that occurred at the homeless housing near the national
cemetery in property that was not owned by the city, but the city required action by the homeowners. Whom do we
followup with if the city takes this action on city owned property?
Please help our city and community to maintain a higher standard of peaceful and safe living by not allowing the
homeless encampment to be placed here.
Thank you
