Dear Council Member,
1
My name is Elliot Hunt. I am the owner and executive chef of Atlas The Restaurant at 208 N Block
Ave. I want to begin by sincerely thanking you for serving on the Fayetteville City Council. As a
business owner, I know how much work goes into running my restaurant. I cannot imagine the time
and effort you must invest in your role on the City Council, and I deeply appreciate your dedication,
thoughtfulness, and leadership on behalf of our community.
As the owner of Atlas The Restaurant, located just steps from the proposed Trinitas development
at 151 W. Dickson Street, I’m reaching out to share my concerns ahead of the upcoming vote on the
developer’s appeal. My concern is focused on the long-term traffic and pedestrian safety issues as
well as the congestion that will be created as a result of a high-density student housing complex built
in this already congested area. Block Avenue, with its back-in parking and narrow, one-way design
already poses traffic challenges, especially during the many events that are held in our city. From my
experience at Atlas, my staff and I have witnessed, almost daily, cars driving in front of Atlas heading
in the wrong direction down this one way street. This already poses a hazard for cars and pedestrians
alike and I fear this will be exacerbated with out of town students and visitors trying to access the
entrance to the student residence from the wrong direction. As a business owner, the experience and
safety of my guests and staff is of utmost importance to me.
I know you are giving careful consideration to the long-term implications of this development for the
decades ahead in terms of the safety and well-being of our citizens. Thank you again for your time
and for your public service.
Regards,
Elliot Hunt
