Hello, esteemed council members and Mayor Rawn!
We are writing to support the ordinance to encourage the construction of ADUs, aligning with Fayetteville's City Plan
2030 goals of promoting infill development and attainable housing.
We support an increased size allowance, where ADUs can be up to 1,200 square feet, doubling the previous limit of 600
square feet.
We also support permitting multiple units, so property owners may have both one attached and one detached ADU,
provided the combined square footage does not exceed 1,200 square feet.
We also support reduced parking requirements, with no additional parking being required for ADUs under 800 square
feet, easing development constraints.
We applaud you for supporting a simplified approval process, where ADUs meeting specific criteria can be approved
administratively, streamlining the permitting process. We also appreciate the efforts to remove the owner occupancy
requirement, which gives property owners more flexibility to offer housing to the community.
We support these initiatives because:
ADUs can provide affordable housing options for students, seniors, and low-income residents.
ADUs foster sustainable development, promoting efficient land use and reducing urban sprawl.
ADUs can help support community ties, as they add density and promote intergenerational dwelling.
ADUs can provide homeowners with additional income streams through rentals, and this can help longtime
Fayetteville residents work together to address the housing crisis while also building generational wealth.
Thank you so much for your consideration! Your hard work on the council is very much appreciated.
Sincerely,
Meredith and Nick Castin
