The City of Fayetteville City Council has longed approved motions to suspend the rules to move a proposed ordinance to its next reading: either the second reading or to the third and final reading. To hopefully shorten the City Council meeting, Mayor Rawn suggests that the Rules of Order and Procedure be changed so that once an ordinance is read, a motion to suspend the rules, if passed, would move it to the third and final reading. This means that the Council need not pass a motion to suspend the rules more than once for an ordinance before it can be voted upon. Council Members may move to table an ordinance on its third and final reading if they are not ready to vote on it during that meeting.
