HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-10-10 - Minutes - Meeting of the Historic District Commission October 10, 2024, 5:30 PM City Hall Rm. 326 & Zoom NOTE: The October 10, 2024, Historic District Commission meeting was held in person and online, with commissioners attending in person. Staff were present in person. Members: Christine Myres – Chair, Julie Preddy – Vice Chair, Meredith Mahan, Mark Harper, Cheri Coley, and Jennifer Didway City Staff: Kylee Cole – Long Range & Preservation Planner; Britin Bostick - Long Range Planning & Special Projects Manager Call to Order: The chair called the meeting to order at 5:30 PM. In Attendance: Christine Myres, Meredith Mahan, Mark Harper, Julie Preddy, Cheri Coley, Jennifer Didway, and Kylee Cole. Approval of Minutes from the September 12, 2024 Meeting: Motion to approve by Vice Chair Preddy, second by Commissioner Coley. Motion passed by voice vote. Announcements: 1. Status of Historic Marker for Nelson Orr: Cole provided an update on the marker, which had an error in manufacturing. This is being fixed and will take approximately three weeks. Staff is waiting for the corrected marker to arrive before scheduling an unveiling and will provide an email update to Commissioners when the marker arrives. Unfinished Business: 1. Fayetteville Bicentennial Planning: Cole reminded the Commissioners that we are waiting until after the election to send out additional letters to any new Council Members, then the next step will be a City Council resolution. 2. Spout Spring Historic Context Statement Project Update: Cole reviewed the recent neighborhood meeting with approximately two dozen people in attendance. The last call for any comments to be sent to Post Oak is tomorrow (October 11th), but staff and AHPP did not have any comments. Post Oak is working ahead of schedule and should have a draft of the document in January. 3. University Heights/Haskell Heights MPDF Project Update: Cole updated the Commission about Stantec’s progress on the draft documents, which should be ready for review in February. 4. 2025 CLG Grant Application Project(s): Cole reviewed the project for the CLG Grant, and Commissioners agreed that this project was an important priority for the city. Commissioner Harper made a motion that the Commission recommend staff apply for a $70K CLG Grant for a city-wide survey and amended his motion to 2 include additional funding for training. Commissioner Mahan seconded. A unanimous roll call vote followed. 5. Commissioner Training & Onboarding: Cole distributed the Architectural Style Guide for inclusion in the Commissioner’s binders and reviewed the document. New Business 1. Never Out of Style – Introduction to the Architectural Style Guide: Cole reviewed the document and Commissioners discussed a few styles of interest including Ozark Giraffe vernacular homes. 2. Architectural Elements of Haunted Houses: Cole presented on the architectural elements of haunted houses, including style, condition, location, function/use, and history. Commissioners shared experience and insight on various sections and discussion followed. Other Business None. Adjourned: The chair adjourned the meeting at 6:23 PM.
