HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-11-14 - Minutes - Meeting of the Historic District Commission November 14, 2024, 5:30 PM City Hall Rm. 111 & Zoom NOTE: The November 14, 2024, Historic District Commission meeting was held in person and online, with commissioners attending in person. Staff were present in person. Members: Christine Myres – Chair, Julie Preddy – Vice Chair, Meredith Mahan, Mark Harper, Cheri Coley, and Jennifer Didway City Staff: Kylee Cole – Long Range & Preservation Planner; Britin Bostick - Long Range Planning & Special Projects Manager Call to Order: The chair called the meeting to order at 5:30 PM. In Attendance: Christine Myres, Meredith Mahan, Mark Harper, Julie Preddy, Cheri Coley, Kylee Cole, and Britin Bostick Approval of Minutes from the October 10, 2024 Meeting: Motion to approve by Vice Chair Preddy, second by Commissioner Coley. Motion passed by voice vote. Announcements: 1. Status of Historic Marker for Nelson Orr: Bostick presented the historic marker to the commissioners. Commissioners were impressed with the design and excited for installation. It just arrived so staff hasn’t had time to coordinate installation and unveiling. Staff will update the commissioners when the unveiling is planned. 2. Preserve Arkansas Award Winner – Brother’s Residence at 665 N. Gray Ave. awarded for Excellence in Preservation: Bostick informed the commissioners that a local Fay Jones property was awarded for Excellence in Preservation by Preserve Arkansas (a statewide winner!). Unfinished Business: 1. Fayetteville Bicentennial Planning: Bostick updated the Commissioners that there is interest from at least one Council member in bringing forward a resolution in support, but reminded that we are waiting until after the election to send out additional letters to any new Council Members and/or Mayor. 2. Spout Spring Historic Context Statement Project Update: Bostick notified the commission about an upcoming public meeting on the project with the consultant next week, and a neighborhood meeting on December 10th. Bostick reviewed key document features, including terminology, study area, historic neighborhood extents, and key themes (education, architecture, urban renewal, etc.). This is available publicly, and the public was asked to provide any comments and edits, with particular focus on Appendix A, to make sure that resources that are known are included. The HDC was asked to provide a review of the recommendations and 2 provide any additional information or edits. Discussion followed about interest in providing copy of final document to Library, Shiloh, and UA Special Collections. 3. University Heights/Haskell Heights MPDF Project Update: There were no updates on this project. 4. Commissioner Training & Onboarding: No updates or training. New Business None. Other Business None. Adjourned: The chair adjourned the meeting at 6:18 PM.
