Our mission is to strengthen our community and empower our citizens through free and public
access to knowledge.
I. Call to Order: S. Overbey called the meeting to order at 4:00 pm.
II. Roll Call
III. Minutes - Approval of minutes from May 20, 2024: S. Rodgers moved to approve the
minutes from May 20, 2024. B. Park seconded the motion. All voted AYE.
IV. Swearing in of new Trustee Carla Davis by Judge John Threet: This was done after the
Public Comment near the end of the meeting.
V. Reports
A. Key Upcoming Events: Facts and Fiction in West Africa, hosted by Dr. C. Banton
and Dr. K. Conner of the Undisciplined Podcast; hybrid Camp NalloWriMo for
teens; Wild for Wednesday weekly event for children; Mountain Street Stage
performances every Sunday. Brick Fields, a local band, will perform the first
Sunday in July.
B. Mission Moment: S. McClure, Manager of Youth Services, discussed the Summer
Reading Kickoff on June 1. Staff estimated 3,500 people attended, and the South
Lot was incorporated in the activities. Vendors included the Fire Department,
Greedy Goats of NWA, Arkansas Lego User Group, Crystal Bridges, and the UA
Entomology Department. Inspyral Circus closed the event with 900+ attendees in
the Event Center.
C. Library Administration
1. Management Reports
a. Performance Measures: Circulation continued to increase, and
attendance is high with the school year's end. Online attendance
remains steady.

b. Strategic Plan progress through May 2024: Staff utilized a ticketing
approach to attendance for the T. Jenkins Reid author event. This was
more successful in managing the size of the audience than R.L. Stine's
author program and will be employed for large events moving forward.
2. Informational
a. Staff development & professional development: C. Moody and M. Taylor
will attend ALA to present the Maker to Market program. The Accounting
team recently returned from the GFOA Conference in Orlando.
b. New staff & recognition: New staff include J. Shurte and A. Simon in
Circulation, and C. Middleton and M. Kettner in Reference.
D. Fayetteville Public Library Foundation report: $23,000 has been raised toward
the deductible. Summer t-shirt sales are popular, especially the tie-dye option.
Capital Campaign mailers will be sent in July, with just under $2 million still
owed.
E. Friends of the Fayetteville Public Library: Next meeting is Monday. Procedures in
the bookstore and donation sorting room are being tightened. An LED sign that
will hang over the door of the bookstore has been ordered.
New business
A. Discussion items
1. Report of the Nominating Committee: S. Overbey, President; S. Rodgers,
Vice -President; A. Wilbourn, Treasurer; B. Bryan, Secretary. B. Park moved to
approve the new slate of officers presented by the Nominating Committee.
R. Qualls seconded the motion. All voted AYE.
2. Walk -On Item: A. Wilbourn distributed a copy of her edits to the bylaws to
the Trustees. They will bring their reviews to the next meeting in August.
VII. Public Comment: S. Overbey stated that she wanted to meet the staff that were present
at the reception that would follow her remarks.
Adjournment: R. Qualls moved the adjourn the meeting. B. Bryan seconded the motion. All
voted AYE. The meeting adjourned at 4:48 pm.
