With 109,000+ miles on this water sewer truck, Fleet is recommending right sizing this full sized V8 4x4 meter reading truck with a replacement Ford Ranger 4x4 with a 4 cylinder ecoboost engine. This reduction in vehicle size and engine size will reduce lifetime maintainence costs and cut fuel costs by 2/3rds according to the Department of Energy Fuel Economy reports. Unit 383 suffered engine failure and with 130,000 miles on this work truck. Fleet is recommending replacment of this unit to an upgraded CV515 4x4 Diesel engine. Ford Tritan v10 gasoline engines have been known to have issues as they approach higher miles and hours. This application for the water sewer department qualifies as severe duty and Fleet will be looking to phase out all v10 gas engines as they have a history of failures under heavy towing, extended idle, severe duty applications.
