Regarding the rezoning and planned destruction of the neighborhood at Duncan Ave/Treadwell St, I have to say that as a resident in the path of the demolition, I am very incredibly sad. This neighborhood has a history, that will be destroyed. It also has very few pockets of green space left, but it does have wildlife, deer, fox, and many birds. They eat the fruit on the trees that will be ripped up. They hide in the bushes that will be clearcut, and there is no protection for them if this plan goes forward. It isn’t just the animals that will be deeply a?ected by this planned destruction, this area holds two of the last a?ordable apartment complexes in Fayetteville. Some among my neighbors could be forced into homelessness if this plan goes forward. This is not an exaggeration, or added for dramatic e?ect, it is a fact. I’m troubled by so many of the choices that have been made for Fayetteville. I’m an Arkansas native and a University of Arkansas graduate. I left Arkansas for nearly 20 years and returned to find much of it unrecognizable. Fayetteville wants to brand itself as a friendly, welcoming place focused on the greater good, however, it shows up as a place focused on the greedier good. So much property has been sold to out-of-town developers who do not have the foresight or heart to protect what we love about Arkansas, our neighbors, our wildlife and our greenspace. I know your minds are set on moving this forward, I have read the comments from the meetings and I know the types of individuals who want these kinds of developments. They can bring in more college students from Texas and line more pockets with their cash, but you won’t be able to buy back the soul of this town once it is gone. Please reconsider. Regards, Jana D.
