The University should assume some responsibility for housing graduate students,
whether Americans or international students. There is already a dearth of affordable
housing for the general population, and a project like the one in this proposal does
nothing to address that. These students are attracted by the outstanding educational
and research opportunities the University provides, and I think they deserve support for
housing to at least the same degree as those who are attracted to our athletic prowess.
The City should pressure the University to step up to address this situation.
