Hello,
The 05/07/24 Fayetteville City Council meeting is today! I have never been to a city council meeting
before, so I’m very nervous but excited to attend my first one and hear the communities I care about,
speak on issues that they care about!
First of all, I would like to thank you for everything you do in the city. Fayetteville has always led Arkansas
in social movement, and the city has been all the better for it. I have always looked to Fayetteville’s
leadership, as have many people in Arkansas, during global conflicts like in Ukraine, and during the
Vietnam war. When it feels like our voices are small, we turn to one another to join together, to make
them louder. That’s what the Ceasefire Resolution is all about! No one wants to have to bear witness to
the deaths in the Middle East. We need to call for a permanent ceasefire.
Fayetteville is not removed from this issue, and we have all started seeing the statistics. A lot of Arkansan
tax dollars, Fayetteville tax dollars, are being spent on weapons. Weapons don’t make peace, they make
war. We don’t want our tax dollars spent on more weapons while we donate what we can to starving,
displaced, and injured people in Palestine. Our community here is dedicated to peace.
I ask that you vote to pass the ceasefire resolution, to make the voice of Fayetteville heard. We don’t
want to see any more war. We want the bombs to stop falling, the deaths of anyone on any side to stop
happening, for all hostages to be set free. A ceasefire has to happen for any kind of peace to be found.
That is all we are asking the city of Fayetteville to support.
Thank you,
Breanna George
