We are reaching out regarding the upcoming discussion on the city council agenda item “C.10 CALL FOR A PERMANENT
CEASEFIRE IN GAZA (RESOLUTION).”
While we also wish for a quick and peaceful resolution to this conflict, a city council resolution in Fayetteville, Arkansas is
not an effective approach. Addressing international ma?ers of such complexity takes the focus away from local issues
that directly impact Faye?eville and its residents. This conflict is incredibly mul?faceted, longstanding, and nuanced. The
proposed resolu?on is performa?ve and overly simplis?c, offering no meaningful impact on the complex dynamics at
play. There are many other interna?onal conflicts that the city has not addressed in this way. Devo?ng city resources to
commen?ng on such complex geopoli?cal issues drains valuable ?me and energy that could be more effec?vely used to
address pressing local concerns.
We urge the council to priori?ze its efforts towards ma?ers where it can have a tangible and significant impact on the
well-being of Faye?eville and its residents.
Thank you,
Erin and Michael Cohen
