Do not click links or open attachments unless you recognize the sender and know the content is safe. Hello Council Members, I hope you are having a wonderful day. I’m writing in response to the upcoming city council agenda item “C.10 CALL FOR A PERMANENT CEASEFIRE IN GAZA (RESOLUTION).” I too hope for a quick and peaceful ending to this conflict, however this is not helpful to meeting those ends. The Fayetteville City Council in Arkansas should be focused on local issues pertinent to our communities, and not commenting on international issues that the city cannot control. This performative vote is ridiculous and a waste of time. This conflict is extremely nuanced, and resolutions such as these seek to oversimplify a long-standing, complex geopolitical conflict. This in turn could negatively affect the local Jewish communities. You didn’t make a similar decree about the war in Ukraine, Sudan, Yemen, or Syria. However you deciding which side of this war our entire community collectively stands. Why are you not calling to free the hostages that Hamas are currently holding in captivity? Do you support or sympathize with Hamas; a terrorist organization? There are numerous other international conflicts that the city has not commented on in this manner, and setting a precedent to do so takes up time and energy that can be better focused on important local issues. Thank you, Chad L. Smith, Ed.S. Voter, Ward 4 1
