Dear Fayetteville City Council Members,
We write to you today as concerned citizens of Fayetteville. We understand there is an agenda item on
the upcoming city council meeting, "C.10 CALL FOR A PERMANENT CEASEFIRE IN GAZA
(RESOLUTION)." While the language of the item itself is fair, balanced, and expresses values with
which we agree, it seems an unnecessary use of city time and resources to have this item listed and
discussed.
We do not understand why the Fayetteville City Council is focusing on an international issue, one that
it cannot meaningfully impact, when there is so much to be done for our town at the local level. It
strikes us as a performative oversimplification of an extremely nuanced geopolitical conflict, one
among many others that the city has not deemed important enough to comment on. Doing so sets a
precedent for grandstanding and wasting more time in future sessions, rather than tackling the issues
important to this city and its people.
Thank you for your consideration of our position.
Best regards,
Drs. Samantha and Jonathan Stinson
