Hi there,
We're writing in response to the upcoming city council agenda item “C.10 CALL FOR A PERMANENT
CEASEFIRE IN GAZA (RESOLUTION).”
As much as we would like to see this conflict end quickly and peacefully, this is not the way to make it so.
The Fayetteville City Council should be focused on local issues pertinent to Fayetteville, and not be in
the business of commenting on international issues that the city cannot impact. This particular conflict
is extremely nuanced, and performative resolutions such as these seek to oversimplify a long-standing,
complex geopolitical conflict. There are numerous other international conflicts that the city has not
commented on in this manner, and setting a precedent to do so takes up time and energy that can be
better focused on important local issues.
Thank you,
Nick and Meredith Castin
