HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-02-15 - Minutes -FAYETTEVILLE — DRAKE FIELD Airport Board Minutes February 15th, 2024 MEMBERS PRESENT: Zane Chenault, Charles Wallace, Richard Rost, John Holley, David Hinton, Monty Roberts MEMBERS ABSENT: David Hopper, Dee McCoy/City, Tamra Kesner/City OTHERS PRESENT: Jared Rabren/City, Terry Gulley/City, Chris Brown/City, Laci Prince/Museum, Jerry Hogan/Author of Forgotten Fayetteville, Bob Stafford/Ward 1 City Council Member ITEM # 1: Approval of the Airport Board Minutes for January 18th, 2024. A motion to approve the January 18th, 2024 was made by Zane Chenault. Richard Rost seconded the motion. The motion carried. ITEM # 2: Receiving of Reports : DIRECTOR'S REPORT: • FUEL FARM REHABILITATION PROJECT: This project is expected to begin on March 21", 2024 and should take roughly 40 days to complete. • AIRPORT MASTER PLAN UPDATE: The Inventory Chapter has been submitted for review. The Master Plan team is currently finalizing the Aviation Activity Forecast chapter, which should be available late February. Following that, they will begin development of the Facility Requirements chapter, which will include initial recommendations, to be presented at the April Airport Board Meeting. • TAXIWAY ECHO EXTENSION: The Environmental Assessment is currently ongoing. MUSEUM REPORT: • Laci Prince reported that in 2023, the Military Museum brought in 14,000 guests, 41 fly -ins, and over 1,200 kids for field trips. • The museum ended the year with a profit of $62,000, new record for the museum since 2020. • Event last month brought in toilet paper for the homeless shelter, dog food, and peanut butter by donating pantry items instead of paying to enter the museum. • Crisis Brew event brought in $583. • Dance is sold out. Camp Drake is sold out. 10 kids will get to tour the tower while 10 kids to fly. • Baby changing tabled installed by the City of Fayetteville. • Bird Watching Exhibit to open soon. The exhibit will be watching planes come in and out. PAGE 1 OF 2 ITEM #4: New Business: • Introduction to T-Hangar rate study to be completed for March Airport Board meeting. Jared Rabren stated that a rate study will be conducted by doing an in depth survey of other airports that are comparable to Drake Field. The Board was asked to bring ideas of which airports they felt met this criteria. • Forgotten Fayetteville author J.B. Hogan. J.B. Hogan gave a breakdown of the history of events in Fayetteville regarding Drake Field. He went over several notable dates and people and their accomplishments. Mr. Hogan mentioned that 2028 is the bi-centennial for Drake Field and there was discussion of recognition of this to be held at the airport. • Bob Stafford of City Council introduced to the Airport Board Bob Stafford introduced himself and stated he is very interested in general aviation and will be an advocate for Drake Field. Mr. Stafford suggested getting the City Council more educated about the Airport and he is more than willing to help. Charles Wallace gave a breakdown of all of the businesses located on the field. ITEM # 5: Old Business: • None. ITEM #6: Other Business: Items from the Airport Board: • Richard Rost stated the EAA will host a chili fly -in on St. Patrick's Day. • Terry Gulley stated that Paul Becker will not be able to attend until the April Airport Board meeting. • Charles Wallace asked that a motion be set forth to have better communication on agenda preparation between the chairman and the Airport Director. John Holley made the motion. Zane Chenault seconded the motion. The motion passed. • Charles Wallace asked for a motion that the minutes be sent out one week after the Airport Board meeting. Zane Chenault made the motion. Monty Roberts seconded the motion. The motion passed. • Zane Chenault took board members for a tour of the cemetery located on the airport property.
