Please distribute this message to the members of the City Council, the Mayor, and other relevant
persons in the question regarding the petition, “Stop the Roadrunner Gas Station at North and
Garland!”
I do not believe another large station is the best use of this property. The growing student population
north of the campus would support many enterprises not requiring automobiles, which is surely in
harmony with the goal of walkability and pedestrian traffic. The North-Garland-Wedington hub has the
potential of being a vibrant, diverse, and profitable mixed-use district of small businesses,
professional office spaces, retail operations, restaurants and other food providers, service businesses
like barber and beauty shops, bike-related businesses, etc. There are bus stops at this intersection,
as well as a considerable amount of parking spaces in Oak Plaza. I think the city should support
these considerations that are in harmony with our long-term goals of density and decreased
dependence on cars. Denying the space to Roadrunner will be a step in that direction.
