Urban Forestry Advisory Board Meeting
October 4, 2023

1. Call to Order:
a. Roll Call:
b. New Board members Bethany Douglas and Carlo Bertani - Introductions
2. Approval of Meeting Minutes – Minutes are Video Archived- The committee approved the previous
month's meeting motions.
3. Awards Program – Any follow-up?
4. Development Projects – Melissa
5. Code Changes- To Hit minimums. Construction fines.
6. Celebration of Trees. We will need our board members to meet us at Spring Street parking garage at
6.15 am to help with the setup.
a. Podium setup for the Mayor
b. Position assignments- Order taker with the post it,
a. Traffic contollers- Jim is usually our main guy
b. Outside traffic controller, this position is there until the intersections on
Spring have cleared out we need 4 for this spot. School, Locust, Church
and Block.
c. Runners- Load into vehicles
• These may be small, but it is a giveaway, and we do have to use the lowest bidder. 1-2’ Tall is the size
of the plants.
7. Tree Project-
a. None ongoing- We are going to be watering. We have our list and will be starting with
Owl Creek first.
b. We will start in October and have orders delivered on Mondays for each project until we
are done.
Fall Projects
• Lake Fayetteville- Planning, Potentially 130 trees
• Vantage Drive – Plans complete an internal review- 30 trees Moved to the fall- October 16th
week
• Harmony Point Park- Internal Reviews -53 trees Moved to the fall –
• Persimmon Blvd- Plans complete. Moved to the fall

• Clarence Craft Park- Plans complete
• Rodney Ryan new block – Plans done- 20 trees- October 16th week.
• Rodney Ryan Re Savanna – planning, potentially 100 trees – Trees ordered and bids awarded,
delivered on October 9th and planted that week.
• Owl Creek – Planning – potentially 75 trees – Trees should be in and being planted this week.
• Byari Park – Planning, reforestation- 50 trees
• Clabber Creek- Plans complete – 31 trees Moved to the fall- October 16

a. Urban Forestry Management Plan
i. Review
9. Goals- Urban Forestry Goal- We need to start discussing this and think about what our overall goal is,
a. I would like for us to make goals based on our capacity of us to maintain these trees to maturity
rather than a number we can plant. The first three to five years is crucial and requires watering.
b. I hope our goal is to maintain and increase our urban tree canopy by planting and caring for
trees to full maturity.
