Approval of April 4, 2022 Meeting Minutes PRAB Motion: Freund moved to approve April meeting minutes. Brink seconded the motion. Motion passed 8-0-0. (Sheely not present). 6. Active Transportation Advisory Committee Update: Yarri Davis Davis discussed the following: • Electric side by side and e-bikes will be rolling out in a few weeks • Any feedback on e-scooter can go through Yarri 7. Botanical Garden Society of the Ozarks Update: Joel Freund Freund discussed the following: • 4 finalists for Executive Director position, candidates will be interviewed over the next month • Chefs in the Garden is coming up in May 8. Volunteer Coordinator Update: Kristina Jones Jones discussed the following: • Manages beautification efforts on the volunteer side • Adopt a park and trails Mailing Address: 113 W. Mountain Street www.fayetteville-ar.gov Fayetteville, AR 72701 • Manages clean-ups around Fayetteville • Education on native and invasive plants • Since maintenance moved to Public Works, it will expand the reach, to include street areas and streets • Reviewed how to utilize the City's calendar to see upcoming volunteer events 9. Apple Seeds Annual Report: Mary Thompson, Executive Director Apple Seeds Thompson discussed the Apple Seeds Annual Report: • Nonprofit teaching farm at Gulley Park • Building a healthy future with nutrition and food as a solid foundation • They were able to reach 15,000 kids, but due to Covid, they were reached in a different way • Work with students at schools who have higher free or reduced lunch rate, those who don't have access to produce and may not be familiar with what a lot of these foods are • In Arkansas, one in every four kids is considered food insecure • Half of the kids consume less than one fruit or vegetable a day Teach the kids to harvest the food and they go into the kitchen and prepare the food • Utilized virtual learning, since they were unable to go into the classrooms, they got a produce bundle and a recipe • Virtually, it spread to other states and countries • 71 % of the students reported when they leave the program, they were willing to eat vegetables • 1300 students viewed the virtual program, and 1,000 teachers downloaded the program • 15,382 students were reached, 2,316 in person, 13,066 virtual • 2021 Annual Budget $464K 10. Naming of Two Trail Loops: Dane Eifling and Matt Mihalevich Eifling, Mobility Coordinator, discussed the following: • Shared the primary logo of the Fayetteville Trails • Fayetteville Trails — South Loop — arrow icon with an orange color • Fayetteville Trails — Parkside Loop — tree icon with a green color Brink said he had a concern with the south loop being a direction arrow. He thought he may confuse people. Freund asked them to consider a color-blind person would confuse, red, green or brown. Dockery said the logo for the Fayetteville Trail looks like fst, not ft. 11. YRCC Expansion Update: Lee Farmer, Recreation Superintendent Farmer discussed the following: • Series of online and in person surveys for public input • Shared a snapshot of the survey results — Recreation Rooms, Kitchen for cooking and nutrition classes, and Classroom for Adult Education rated highest • The expansion would take up some parking spaces, some off-street parking will be added off of Mill Street • The expansion would be outward and upward, with an urban design to bring the activity to the front of the street • Enhance Buddy Hayes Park • Shared layout of expansion • Included in Phase II Bond Project, hoping to bid out later this year 12. Strategic Master Plan & Construction Update: Ted Jack, Planning Superintendent Jack discussed the following: • Kessler ballfields are moving along, turf is being put on the fields and work continues on the parking lot. The goal is to have the fields ready by fall. • Staff continues to have meetings about the Strategic Master Plan, gathering information to get the draft done. Looking to have the draft completed by June or July. 16. Review of HMR Report: Ted Jack, Planning Superintendent Jack said February was low, but March was $1000 short of a record month. 17.
